This issue can be resolved by installing the SQL Server 2005 Backwards Compatibility Mode.

If your issue persists you may have to enable the TCP/IP protocol for the SQL Server Native Client.
To do this you must click on Start. Then click on Run. Type "cliconfg". Click "OK". Click on TCP/IP and click Enable. Click "OK".
