Serum Indices

Semi-quantitative representation of pre-analytical HIL specimen interferences

Bio-Rad's products for Serum Indices are intended for use as part of laboratory practice to monitor the instrument response to detect hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Hemolysis, icterus, and lipemia (HIL) are the most commonly tested interferences that may affect the integrity of patient samples in the clinical laboratory. Most major chemistry test platforms include an automated HIL detection feature while some QC lab personnel visually inspect samples.

Detect pre-analytical interferences

Key benefits of Serum Indices Products

Improves detection of pre-analytical interferences

Monitors instrument response in detection of HIL interferences for the majority of common chemistry test systems

Can be used on most major chemistry test instruments, including Abbott, Beckman, Roche, Ortho, and Siemens

Human-sourced materials are similar to patient samples, adding confidence

Monitoring automated HIL detection helps reduce costly human errors

Access to peer group comparisons helps identify potential drift and failure

Frequently asked questions

Most analyzers now include on-board, automated HIL detection to determine if the integrity of a patient sample has been compromised by HIL interferences. Liquichek Serum Indices can be run automatically to help ensure that the instrument is performing as expected when detecting HIL interferences.

You can quickly and easily enter your results and track instrument performance in Bio-Rad's Unity interlaboratory program. In addition to monitoring the performance of your Instruments, you can also compare your result to other labs reporting into Unity using the same instrument.

ISO 15189:2012 supports the identification and control of non-conformities within the pre-analytical testing process. In addition, thought leaders from the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry, Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) Working Group, for Preanalytical Phase (WG-PRE), recently published their expert opinion about management of internal quality control assessment for HIL indices. Read the article in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry for details.

You may wish to include a product such as Liquichek Serum Indices as part of your individualized Quality Control Program (IQC) to perform pre-analytical checks and monitor instrument response for detecting HIL samples.

Liquichek Serum Indices can be used on most major chemistry instruments, such as Abbott, Beckman, Roche, Ortho, and Siemens.
